Classic cars are better than modern cars. This is just a fact, but others might understandably not get it. In order to clear things up we are going to break it down into a blow-by-blow account before seeing who comes out victorious – the mundane moderns or the celebrated classics.
Looks: An important factor in car ownership (after all, who wants to drive around looking like a bit of a berk?). Classic wins this one hands down over modern, though modern has certainly been improving since the 90s. Classic
Reliability: Less important nowadays due to the likes of the AA and RAC, but modern cars do break down less. On the other hand, once a modern car goes wrong you’re stuck due to the complexities, whilst you can fix a classic yourself more often than not. However, modern takes the gold here. Modern
Cost: Classic wins without question, as long as you don’t opt for the rarer specimens. Classic
Speed: Does this matter? You’re not going to be going over 70 right? Right? Well, regardless, it’s hard to argue that classic could win, so that’s a result for the modern and a tie unless…
Drivability: How fun is the car to drive? Well, new cars are faster, safer and have more grip, but they don’t have that feeling of being really involved in the process that a classic does. That means, with this the tie-breaking factor, that CLASSIC takes the winners crown! NB
