I have never been sailing, but a friend of mine has invited me to accompany her on their sailing trip around the Greek Islands this summer, so can you imagine how excited I am?! I’ve been nagging at her to tell me all there is to know about sailing as a holiday rather than a sport and it honestly sounds incredible. We will be sailing as part of a flotilla of 44 foot sailing boats and I’ll be sharing one of the teeny tiny bedrooms with my friend below deck… fingers crossed I don’t get seasick! We wake up bright and early, faff around with various ropes and sails (I’m sure I’ll have to actually learn how to sail once we get out there!) and set off to the open sea. I’ve been told we’ll drop the anchor in the middle of the ocean for a spot of lunch and swimming, where it’ll be so deep you can’t even see the bottom. Either that or we’ll sail off to find a secluded beach some where to moor up and spend the day sunbathing and playing games. The only thing I’m worried about it not learning when to duck. I’m told this is a particularly important skill to gain when sailing, especially when you are nearly 6ft tall like me! This holiday will be an adventure rather than a sit back and do nothing holiday, something I’ve never experienced, so wish me luck!
