We like this magazine because it is less concerned with the private lives of the rich and famous and more concerned with the art of film making and the culture and politics which surround the process. It likes to feature controversial films, such as ‘Project Nim’ which is a documentary made about a chimp which was raised with a human family to see if he could learn any language skills. The topics can be somewhat contentious and many people may not agree with it, but it is the debates which spark from the topics put forward in films which Cineaste thinks people should think about.
The magazine will also discuss the films made by the more unusual film makers from the past such as looking at unfinished Nazi propaganda films and other disturbing images produced by people with questionable morals. The magazine isn’t afraid of shocking the readers or making them feel uncomfortable. If the topic is an issue of public importance then Cineaste likes to discuss it.
Cineaste magazine makes a nice change from the other similar magazines which often look at the superficial elements of film making and often ignore the reasons behind the films or the political undertones of a film. We think film fanatics will like this magazine and it will definitely make you ponder about the powerful nature of film making.
