Firstly, if you are interested in Private Eye and keen on the British arts scene - have a quick look at Jackdaw Magazine..it’s a comparable magaine in many ways to Private Eye.
Back to Private Eye, there is a lot of history to this magazine, which started out as a school publication (we think it was probably a public school..). It shuns the usual glossiness of many of its contemporaries, printed as it is on low grade paper whilst barely troubling the colour ink pot. We have to say this fits with our ethos a Newsstand, content over style wherever possible.
Edited by the little fellow on Have I Got News For You television programme, it prides itself in unearthing unsavoury business dealings - especially where there is a strong political attachment. To be fair, Private Eye has brought to light more than its fair share of scandals which the public need know about. The Eye, as its also known, does keep clear of attacks on the personal lives of those in the public eye - some aren’t sure whether this is a misplaced badge of honour but its fair as far as we are concerned (though not sure the Newsstand moral compass should in any way be endorsed).
Contributors to this classic British magazine are often public figures or journalists working under pseudonym, allowing them to write content that they would otherwise not dare to.
Above all else, buy a copy of Private Eye magazine and you will be amused as it is exceedingly well informed and no less hilarious.
