A bit of a find this one, if you’ll excuse the pun. Treasure Hunting magazine is a great monthly publication that proudly proclaims itself to be ‘The UK’s Number One Metal Detecting Magazine’, and with good reason.

Each issue brings you all the latest news from the world of metal detecting, as well as the round-ups, reports and letters from the clubs and metal detectorists across the UK. There are some great features on recent amazing finds, as well as historical articles covering topics such as heraldry and coinage to help you in your search for lost treasure. Treasure Hunting also tests and reviews metal detectors and equipment and software.

Here at Newsstand we love the title of this magazine – after all, that is exactly what those who enjoy a spot of metal detecting are doing, hunting for treasure. Now, who amongst you, yes, all of you reading this, can honestly say that ‘Treasure Hunting’ doesn’t sound appealing?

Treasure Hunting is something that we reckon pretty much everybody wanted to do when they were a kid. That kind of thing is a little difficult growing up in a big city – you don’t really want to know the kind of treasure that you might find if you go digging in London – but for anyone who grew up in the countryside, the prospect of heading out to a field and having a good dig around in an attempt to find the lost treasure of smugglers is a enticing one. Of course, you have to be careful that the farmer doesn’t see you…

Metal detecting is essentially this wonderful kids dream all grown up – oh, if you were to ask metal detectorists (a great name for those who enjoy it by the way) why they were doing it they might well mumble something about history, but we know their secret. And you know what? Why not enjoy the simple thrill of getting out there are looking for treasure? Just remember to ask the farmer’s permission now that you’re all grown up. NB
