WWE wrestling has been described to me (by fans of the sport I might add) as a sort of soap opera for men in the sense that even though a lot of the fights are choreographed, it’s still wildly entertaining and gets who on the edge of your seat while watching. The WWE is an enormous American company that gets a lot of revenue from both wrestling and films, in fact there are several fighters who have successfully made their way into the film industry. Possibly the most famous example of this has to be Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. He made his debut into the industry with ‘The Mummy Returns’ and that went down such a treat a prequel was made around his character. Since then he’s done a number of kids movies and guest appearances in some tv series’ episodes, often striding on set with a studio style round of applause. It’s interesting to see the obvious links between WWE wrestling shows and a career in acting. Not only do fighters have to semi-improvise loosely choreographed fights, they have to throw themselves into these vicious back stories of feuds, hate and drama. It is therefore unsurprising that so many have progressed into the film industry, others including Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant and Paul Wight.
