We rather loved the idea of a publication devoted to studying up on how to be the most effective anarchist possible. “Have you ever considered throwing bricks through the windows of building that represent capitalism such as Banks? Anarchist studies reviews the top ten bricks for heft and throwability. We also take a look at how to best hide your identity, and whether the balaclava is getting outdated.”

Though whether such a magazine would go against the tenets of anarchy, representing organisation to some degree, we don’t know. But, if there isn’t a law against it (which there probably is, inciting violence or something like that) we would love to see such a magazine.

Instead Anarchist Studies offers a serious look at what is now a serious subject of academic study. Anarchy and anarchism represents a political movement that is fascinating and merits much study, regardless of the personal beliefs of those studying it. This isn’t about causing anarchy but about looking at the cultural and societal impact it has had. Mind you, we could well believe that a few students out there wouldn’t pass up the chance to cause a little anarchy if they could get away with it. NB
